What is graphic design? This question has been pondered by many. The best answer I have come across is from Ellen Lupton, renown designer and writer: “Design is communication.” Plain and simple. As designers, we don’t decorate or add swirly-swirls to a word document—designers effectively communicate a message to an audience with style. SparkArt sums it up nicely, “Great design to us means content is king, function is more, and beautiful is best.” Keeping it fresh is what it’s all about. Stimulation, exhilaration, and creating tangible change. Boring is normal; extraordinary is par for the course.
